WhyHotel Pops Up in the Mid-Atlantic

225 N. Calvert St. in Baltimore, home to WhyHotel Baltimore Inner Harbor

WhyHotel is a new brand of luxury pop-up hotels that recently arrived in the area. The idea is simple: customers rent a brand new fully furnished apartment home for a short or extended stay. New apartment communities rent out a block of unleased units to WhyHotel, and WhyHotel transforms them into temporary homes for their guests.

Booking is done directly through the WhyHotel website and rates are competitive with other local hotels. They even offer AAA and AARP discounts.  Extended stay guests can also get a special rate.

Some of the perks offered by WhyHotel can include 24/7 onsite hosts, free WiFi, housekeeping, and access to community amenities like fitness centers. Since these are full apartments rather than standard hotel rooms, guests also have a full kitchen, washer and dryer, and cookware and utensils. Some even allow you to bring your pets along, for an additional fee.

Pop-up hotels that offer guests full apartments for their stay can appeal to a wide range of people with different needs—a weekend getaway, a family vacation, or an extended work trip. It could even be a perfect solution for someone who is having their home renovated and needs another place to stay.

The guinea pig community where the WhyHotel concept was first tested was in 2017 at The Bartlett, a 699-unit apartment project in what is now dubbed National Landing in Arlington.  Currently, WhyHotel is located in three different apartment buildings: Origin in Arlington, VA, 225 N. Calvert in Baltimore, MD, and 100K Apartments in Washington, DC. Two more locations will soon arrive in Northern Virginia: Centro in Arlington and Rise in Tysons.  A nationwide expansion is also in the works.
